This Blog is in Hibernation – Follow me on Twitter

April 8, 2009

I’m still alive, but I think maybe I accomplished everything I needed to with this blog.

I won’t kill the blog, it will stay up,  and I will continue to monitor and respond to comments.

I may start posting here regularly again one day, but for now, the blog will hibernate.

I have taken my active anti-mormon proslytizing to twitter. You can follow my feed there: http://twitter.com/measure76

It is easier to share articles from exmormon.org there, though they won’t get archived that way. But I think I’ve archived a really good sample here, and if I see anything that’s really new and interesting, I will come back to this blog and post it.

One more thing about my twitter feed… while primarily exmo-rantings througout the week, on NASCAR Racedays, and Seahawks GameDays, I’ll be twittering about those subjects.

Measure talks NASCAR

February 11, 2009

I’ve started a new blog in no way related to mormonism.

NASCAR Poker

What if NASCAR was scored like a series of poker tournaments, where only the top few racers walked away with any points each week?

Come find out.

I’ve been redditted.

January 9, 2009

I don’t know if that’s the right term.

This blog usually gets around 40 hits a day, one time I had a spike to 300 when I ranted about the church and posted a link on craigslist.

In the last 12 hours I’ve recieved over 18,000 hits. Yikes. I don’t even know how to respond to that.

So uh, Hi, everyone, please enjoy your stay, and if you hate my site, please, please remember to leave some comments over on the ‘hate this site’ link on the right.

It will be interesting to see how many of you stick around.

This blog is primarily a collection of reposts from the exmormon.org forums, and I try to identify the author whenever I use their work.

The blog has slowed down lately, but I have taken to criticising Mormon Sunday School lessons and found it to be somewhat satisfying.

I don’t know what else to say to you all. Have fun.

Blog Title Change

December 17, 2008

I’ve changed the title on my blog to lessen the confusion I’ve seen at some places between my blog and the RfM message board.

If you have an idea for a better title, I’m open to suggestions, but I don’t want anything that would be inherently offensive to mormons.

I think this is a great video, and personally would be interested in the full interview, if it exists. Video after the jump.

Americans don’t like Mormons

November 20, 2008

There’s some interesting news about perception of  Mormonism today, but I’m too lazy to write commentary about it, so here’s some from Darquestar at RFM:

This is fantastic stuff, given me a great start to the day.

“A new book shows Mormons have a problem: an image problem. Dr. Gary Lawrence — who is a Latter-day Saint, a political pollster and market researcher based in California — says recent news events are not the problem. Rather, it’s the way Latter-day Saints talk about their faith.”

Here is ths link…

My favourite line, the one that had me choking on my coffee?

“Thirty-seven percent of all Americans do not know a Mormon, and 55 percent of all Americans do not know an active Mormon. In fact, those who know one Mormon have a worse opinion of us than those who don’t know any Mormons,” Lawrence said.

Great stuff!

Tommy Monson’s Opening Remarks.

October 29, 2008

Here are some of the key points in President Monson’s “Welcome to Conference” Talk, from October ‘08 General Conference. I will include my observations. If this post gets a favorable (or hell, even unfavorable) response, I may follow up with more of the talks from Conference.

My dear brothers and sisters, the past six months since last we met seem to have flown by. Much has transpired as the work of the Lord has moved forward uninterrupted.

6 Months have passed, and the first thing God wants you to know is that his work has moved forward uninterrupted. Interrupted by what? Has such Interruption ever occurred in the history of the church? Then why is it worth mentioning?

Are Mormons Allowed to Drink Caffinated Sodas?

October 28, 2008

Not in the MTC! Heh. But here’s a great post from Steve Benson at RFM on this matter:

Mormon actor and TV sitcom star Johnny Whitaker smoked a lettuce-leaf pipe in the production, “Tom Sawyer.”

Whitaker–(a Mormon who served a two-year LDS mission in Portugal and attended Brigham Young University where he received a degree in communications)–was (if I recall correctly from an article published in the Mormon Church’s “Deseret News”) chastized by Spencer W. Kimball for setting a bad example and publicly expressed regret for having inhaled lettuce leaf smoke in a scene designed to portray him as doing tobacco.

New community for ex mormons

October 24, 2008

Things are staying pretty slow in the exmo world. I’ve offered my reasons about that before, but I think things will get back to normal after election day.

However, I have been invited to a new community for ex mormons. http://www.exmormononline.net

I’m not sure how to describe it, it’s a little like a myspace or facebook, but it has dicussion boards, community blogging, and the like.  Profile pictures, the whole getup.  It’s interesting so far, and I might add it to my sidebar. But i’ll just put the link in this post for now.
